He sat himself on a bench, a Rubik cube in hand, as he glared at the thing, simultaneously flipping each side, every moment becoming more and more frustrating for the demon. It was just a little human invention, the damned thing, so why couldn't he figure it out?
He grunted, much too invested in keeping his patience, abating the urge to throw the object away, than anything else to notice what was happening around him.

Vincent didn't like bringing Merlin to school, more so because he was a distraction and a lot of the female students in the class weren't really able to pay attention. Plus, the puppy was far more trouble than he should have been worth. Why his brother had insisted on plopping the thing into his lap was beyond him. Vincent was completely content with Arthur and mind you, he picked up the cat quite freely on his own and nursed her back to health. Plus she didn't need anything from him besides food and sometimes a good brushing, but really? Cats were so independent. "Now where did he go now?" The teacher grumbled and sighed. So troublesome.
The puppy in question was happy weaving his way through groups of students, eliciting giggles and cute aawww's. However, Merlin couldn't be bothered with them at the moment. He wanted something yummy to eat. Besides, he needed to find his hooman because Vincent was going to get lost without him! Before he could though, he took a turn into the big bush twisty forest. Vincent didn't like him coming in here, more so because the last time he was in here he was trying to dig a hole through the hedge. Arthur told him later that it would've been cheating if he dug through all the hedges. It was then that he spotted the white haired hooman holding a - oh hey was that a chewy cube?
Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! He had one of those at home too! Except there weren't a lot of black lines on them, but they were probably just another type of chewy cube. ``HAI HOOMAN WHO IS NOT A HOOMAN BUT LOOKS LIKE A HOOMAN. The puppy barked and scampered on over. ``You must be one of those hoomans! The ones that weren't quite like him, the dog hoomans, but not like the catfox hoomans either. Arthur calls them foxes, or well kitsunes if you wanted to be specific, and she thought they had ugly muzzles, but they had bushy tails like cats so maybe they were related. That's why they were catfox people. And he certainly wasn't one of them bright hoomans either, no no, this one was some kind of other hooman. ``You must be ones of them not shiny hoomans. Which were the opposite of them bright hoomans, Arthur calls them demons though, but back to the rather pressing matter on hand. ``Are you gunna throw that chewy cube, not shiny hooman? Merlin wagged his tail, propping his front legs down and his but ended up in the air. Of course, this was proper dog etiquette. A play bow was needed to initiate proper playing. ``I'll catch the chewy cube if you do!

He blinks as the bark cuts through his focus, momentarily distracted from the colorful cube in his hands, taking a look at the source of noise that pulled him out of his frustration. Blue eyes blink once again as the puppy looks all to eager to play, tail up, looking oh so adorable with how he kept looking at the- OH. There's a dull click in Shiro's mind, understanding clear in his eyes as he grins at the idea. What better way to take off the rough tension and frustration from the toy that to toss it around. He's not all opposed to the idea, in fact, it's much more appealing than spending another ten minutes trying to maneuver his way through the puzzle, and certainly much more entertaining.
"You want this, boy?" He says, lifting the unsolved rubix cube into the air and shaking it to get the canine's attention. Vaguely, the dog reminds him of Woofer, a stray he had come across some twenty odd years ago. He was dead and gone of course, but he had been one of the first other being that Shiro had claimed ownership of, even for just a short time. He looked at the puppy fondly. Never mind where he had come from, just that he was here now. "Go get it!" And so he flings the cube, not as far as he could, but enough that it lands ten meters away.

Vincent would have loved to discuss literature with his brother at the moment, particularly on the proper naming of Merlin. The puppy was no wise adviser of any sort and he certainly wasn't leading Vincent down a path of a calm and peaceful life. No. The puppy was leading him everywhere around the campus and driving him completely insane with anxiety and paranoia. He stopped at a group of students, catching their attention immediately by the way the usually stern and rather intimidating Mister Sterling, was now rather worried. "Have any of you seen a collie puppy? He's brown and white, probably looking for food?" They shook their heads and said that they would notify him as soon as they did. Good heavens. "Please do." Where could that pup have gone? "Oh wait, Mister Sterling! I think he was going towards the Maze." Great. He gave a quick thank you before hurrying off.
While Vincent was slowly finding his way toward Merlin, the pup was enjoying his soon to be blooming relationship with this not shiny hooman. He wagged his tail, well more of a butt wiggle really, and barked again. ``YES. Because he really, really, really wanted that chewy cube! Vincent only brought his floofa loofa with him today and not his whole entire toy chest! That was utterly absurd and ridiculous! He needed all those toys! What else was he supposed to do besides sit and get petted by pretty nice little hoomans anyway? Plus, Vincent hooman was too busy talking all the time and having his nose in one of them books. ALL. DAY. LONG. ``I would likes the chewy cube please! Merlin nodded in confirmation and then...and then the white haired shadow hooman said it. He had to go get it. ``OTAY. He did this all the time with Vincent hooman and it was a fun game! In a rush of short puppy legs, Merlin scrambled after the multicolored cube.
Even though it hadn't landed far away, it was still quite the adorable run from the puppy. All eager to get to the cube while trying not to trip on his own four feet. ``Mine, mine, mine! Merlin called as he tackled the chewy cube, making it so that they both tumbled over. HEY! Wait a minute! Merlin rolled from his back and onto his paws. This cube wasn't soft like his chewy cube! The chocolate brown dog reached out and batted it. Huh. It must be one of them special chewy cubes that hoomans played with. But how did they chew these things? OH WELL. Hoomans were strange beasties, all of them really. Merlin reached down and got hold of the plastic cube, white puppy teeth catching onto the spaces between each smaller cube. ``Ah gah eeh, ah gah eeh! He held the caught rubix cube in his mouth with the utmost pride as he brought it back to Shiro. Dropping it at the alp demon's feet, he grinned. ``I got it! Now he wanted a prize. A pettings or a scratchings would be nice. Preferably not on the nose. Arthur was not nice when she scratched him on the nose with her claws.

He laughed, grin widened as the puppy turned into little more than a mass of fur bounding after the cube. The puppy truly was adorable, overly eager and energetic, Shiro couldn't help but forget about his earlier tension over the silly puzzle, and throwing it away felt much more liberating than he thought it would. Though he had to wonder, who owned the puppy? Course, it was still noon, tons of the students would still be in their classes, while no doubt the night class would be getting ready for theirs, which meant that almost anyone could have let their pet loose to play around for a while before the sun did set. But perhaps this was all in fate, to relieve his boredom for this particular afternoon.
Shiro clapped as Merlin managed to get the cube in his mouth, quite a feat considering the cube was large enough that the dog had to stretch out his jaw, and continued to cheer as he brought back the puzzle as though it was the fattest bird, fresh from the hunt. There was just something about puppies that brought out a childish side (even more so, if one can imagine) of the demon. Perhaps their little mushy faces and tiny eyes, or the boundless affection that they returned in kind, or maybe he was just a dog-person, plain and simple.
As the puppy came near once more, he dropped to his knees, greeting the puppy with praise. "Who's such a good boy? You are, you are~" He said with glee, in what could be assumed as his 'baby voice'. The grin looked as though it was permanently plastered on the demon's face, as he reached out over to the pup, and started rubbing and petting all over the place. "Such a champion, I'll bet you'll be great retriever someday."

YAY! He did get pets! He did, he did! Wow this shadow hooman was the bestest! The puppy's tail was wagging side to side in a rapid blur of chocolate colored fur. ``I AM! I AM! Merlin answered as he leaned into the demon's touch. It was rude to leave unanswered questions you know. Besides, he knew this answer all by himself. ``I AM A GOOD MERLIN! The collie barked again and then rolled on over onto his back, flashing his white stomach. Of course he was a good boy! He was the bestest pup ever and it would only be super duper obvious, although Arthur would probably say so, that he would be the champion of anything! Retrieving, digging, eating, or just about anything. ``YES BECAUSE I AM MAGICAL MERLIN THE MYSTICAL PUP! And that just explained it all.
The architect who designed the school, or maybe it was the gardner or possibly a collaboration of both these people, had taken a shine on him from the time the school was built, and made the maze small. Small enough to not possibly get lost and easy enough to find one wayward pup. Vincent was counting his lucky stars that his missing puppy was in the maze, entertained by who knows, considering how loud the hyperactive puppy was barking. "MERLIN." The literature teacher called, the concern on his face began ebbing away to display his more usual expression. Annoyance. ``VINCENT HOOMAN! Merlin rolled back onto his paws, leaving Shiro as he happily bounded over to the teacher. ``Vincent hooman! I found a shadow hooman and he threw me a chewy cube! He got onto his hind paws and pawed at Vincent's leg. Pitter patter, scratcheroo! The lit teacher didn't really have a choice other than to pick the pup up or look mean and slightly abusive for nudging him away.
Once in Vincent's arms, Merlin was quick in what he had to say. ``YOU SHOULD GET A CHEWY CUBE TOO! It would be great! Although, then his hooman would need to share with him since yeah. Sharing is caring you know! To spread the love and demonstrate his love, Merlin opened his mouth and nommed right onto Vincent Hooman's face. ``AH RAH OUUU. Vincent Hooman wasn't all that smart though, considering he didn't quite like the gesture. "Merlin." Vincent winced and dislodged his face from the pup's facial kiss to finally address the student that had been occupying Merlin's attention. "I'm sorry if he was disturbing you in any way." He was completely ignoring Merlin's protest whines. "He's just really....hyper and extremely friendly." To say in the least.

The puppy had bounded off in such a hurry that he thought he might have hurt him somehow. Certainly he was bit rougher than most humans, but he had been fairly sure to be gentle with the little puppy as he had rolled all around, receiving the petting like it hadn't been given much attention for a month. His frown quickly dissipated at the sight of the teacher, Shiro figured that Merlin was at least familiar with the man, unless the puppy really did just seek attention from the nearest living beings alive. That made him feel dirty, like a used chew toy.
He snickered all the same as Merlin appeared to try and give Vincent a big sloppy french kiss. Definitely not something you saw everyday. "Oh, nah, not really." Shiro grinned. "I think he needs like, five walks a day or something to keep him in check. Can't imagine what he's like in small space." He already had the feeling that if Merlin were left in a room with stacks of papers, everything would be demolished in ten minutes flat.
Shiro's almost certain that he should know who this mystery man is. He'd definitely seen him around, in some corridor or just in passing, though he couldn't put his finger on it just yet. "What's his name anyway? Is he yours?"

Vincent had to give a chuckle at what the white haired student had said. Walks were probably the best remedy for such a hyper puppy like Merlin, but then you'd need a huge field with a fence surrounding it, or even a really, really long leash, to keep the puppy happy. "Five walks would be the best." Although trips to the park weren't really on his agenda until the weekends. Merlin would have to wait until Saturday or Sunday for those. Of course, the six month old puppy always did get enough exercise running around the school and having Vincent chase after him. "As for small rooms, he has his own room in the penthouse." Which wasn't a joke at all. Merlin had the whole first floor to himself and then there's a spare room for both Arthur and Merlin to share. That room itself was just filled with dog and cat toys. The two animals did get along with some relative ease.
At the topic of walks, Merlin perked up and happily batted at Vincent's face with his paws. ``FIVE WALKS? Oh boy! Walks meant the park and the park meant fun and the park was only fun because there were birds and hoomans and baby hoomans and birds and nice smells and birds and - ``Vincent Hooman, can we have five walks a day? He asked really nicely, Arthur said if you asked nice you'd get things! ``And then five walks at night time too? The puppy whined and pawed some more. ``I can chase the birdies quiet in the park at night time! I promise not to bark if you do! He would promise all over and over and over, cross his heart forevers. But his attention was called away to the white haired shadow hooman that he was playing with just a few minutes before. ``HEY! OH. MY. GOSH. REALLY? ``I told you my name already shadow hooman. I said it was Mystical Merlin the Magical Pup! So there was no need to ask his hooman!
Gosh no, now Vincent was making introductions. "Ah, his name is Merlin and yes he does. My brother decided to drop him on me just a few months ago actually." No, no, no, no, no! He was getting it all wrong! UGH. ``No Vincent Hooman, you belong to me and you still don't get my namers right! Why couldn't they understand him? ``It's Magical Merlin the Mystical Pup! The puppy gave a huff. Gosh, they were probably all deaf to his puppy cries. ``You hoomans are hard to teach. Completely ignoring Merlin's whines and batting, only after scratching the puppy's ears in some form of compensation, Merlin couldn't stay mad forever with ear scratches, the English teacher finally gave a question to the student that kept Merlin company/ "And may I ask who would you be?"
