[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=vAlign,top] THREE HUNDRED TWENTY-SEVEN MALE FERRY CAPTAIN HETEROSEXUAL CIVILIAN PHOENIX "maybe if I pretend like I'm not looking, he won't see me" | SUGINO, KOURIN general information NAME: Kourin Sugino HEIGHT: 5'7" WEIGHT: 142 lbs APPEARANCE: Not much stands out about Sugino Kourin. Not too tall, not too short, skinny, but not too skinny, black hair--Kourin really is a wallflower. If anything does stand out about him, it would be his red eyes and the fact that the room does seem a bit warmer whenever he is around. Kourin's expression is not one to be noticed either. At seemingly all times, he has a look of nonchalance and boredom. As if to emphasize the fact further, he speaks in a monotonous voice, absent of any emotion. While he does have the ability to show different facial expressions and speak in other tones, he chooses not to, too used to behaving in such a way due to his past. Kourin does not dress to impress. Even in the coldest of weathers, he is seen wearing a red and white baseball cap, an unbuttoned dress shirt with a black shirt underneath, jeans and shoes. His wardrobe rarely changes due to the fact that he's too lazy to shop for other more stylish clothes. personal POWERS: • Memory Call • Lullaby LIKES:
DISLIKES:
HABITS: • Observing/Shipping people together • Having a good cup of joe every morning FEARS: Having been abandoned by his parents when he was young, in some part of his mind, Kourin has gathered that he wasn't wanted by anyone. Still, because he watched his half-brothers and sisters grow up from afar, he couldn't help but grow a strong attachment to them, even if they don't know him personally. Thus, his greatest fear is that if they ever found out, they would end up shunning him as his parents had. OVERALL: If any word could be used to describe Kourin, it would be "wallflower." Perhaps it is because of his job, but Kourin does not stand out much as a person. If anything, it could be said that he is part of the backdrop of a play, seen, but not important. Generally by the public, he is known as the responsible hard working Ferry Captain. Seemingly aloof without an expression to be seen on his face at almost all times, he generally gives of a rather distant aura. As if to prove this fact, whenever he sees others littering or dirtying his ferry, his mood immediately takes a turn for the worst, bluntly threatening to throw the poor person off board if they continue to mess around with his ship. So when people truly get to know the phoenix, they are surprised to learn that their view of him is actually the exact opposite of how he truly is. Though Kourin still wears his mask of nonchalance, he enjoys teasing those he's close to with small jabs and witty comebacks. Being the mischievous thing he is, he will even play pranks on them if the situation calls for it. Surprisingly too, he's actually a caring person. He won't hesitate to give students a ride on his ferry after hours if they work late or something comes up. If anybody hurts those he is close to, he won't hesitate to fight back with fire. In that sense, one could say that he takes on the role as a good older brother, teasing, yet loving. Though one would never pin him for the type, Kourin is quite perceptive when it comes to picking up on others' emotions. Thus, he enjoys watching the student and teacher population as he takes them to and from Seisen Academy. Secretly in his head, he will pair certain people up with others and will staunchly stand up for his OTPs if ridiculed for it. Those other idiots don't know what they're talking about anyway. HISTORY: Kourin was born during the height of Japan's golden age: the Edo Period. His mother was a young vibrant young phoenix and his father was a young up and coming trader of the phoenix race too. Apparently when his mother was younger, her father wooed her with his smooth words and charismatic nature. It was not long before they were married and had their first and only child, Kourin. While they initially started off happy, as the first years of their marriage passed on, the father became more prominent till he was taking trips months at a time. The mother did not doubt her husband at all during these times. She loved him with all her heart and assumed that her husband felt the same. Unfortunately, in the eighth year of their marriage, it came to attention that her husband cheated on her and had a child with another woman. Shocked and infuriated, she took her child and fleed south to Kyushu. It took months for her to get over her heartbreak, and when she did, a sharp bitterness for life took its place. She really gave weight to the common saying that hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. She resorted to prostitution and heavy drinking as if those could rekindle the joy she felt when she was in love. Shamed and angered, she barely took care of her son, doing the minimum work possible to keep him alive. As the brat grew older, he began looking more and more like his father. Thus, he only reminded her of the love she once had. As cruel as she was, however, Kourin stayed by her side for she was his mother and he loved her despite everything she put him through. Sometimes when she was asleep, he would search her memories to view the only man she ever came to love. Feeling pity for his mother, Kourin did his best to keep on her good side in hopes that the pure woman that he saw in her memories would rise from the ashes of sorrow and hatred she came to be. It quickly became realized that the hopes and dreams of a child rarely, if ever, came true. Unable to deal with her child any longer, his mother sold him to one of her recent rich clients. The man was a collector of rare animals. With delight, he would light the poor boy on fire in front of his friends to boast his finding of the great mythical phoenix. Kourin was whipped whenever he fought back and drenched in water if his expression was one of defiance. Unable to stand it any longer, when performing the rising from the ashes stunt for a large party, Kourin shifted into his bird form and manipulated the fire, burning to death his master and all the guests there. After escaping, Kourin opted to remain as a bird, for as long as he flew high, nothing bad could happen to him. It was during one of those flights that Kourin caught sight of a ragtag group of kitsunes. Even though they all looked different, they all stayed together as a family. Strangely, he was drawn to a certain one in a way that he couldn't explain. Unable to retain his curiosity any longer, one night, he flew down to the sleeping group and searched the memories of the one who caught his attention. To his surprise, he finally found the link he felt inside. The man that his mother loved so dearly was the kitsune's father. Even more important, even though it was only half, Kourin was the kitsune's brother. At that moment, a rush of emotions overtook Kourin in ways he couldn't explain. He had a family... a real family... yet, he didn't belong. Kourin was a phoenix, and his brother already had a family of kitsunes. However, he couldn't simply leave his brother alone. Even if his brother did not know, Kourin would always watch over him to make sure that he was okay. Hell, because the kitsune group was his brother's family, Kourin would make sure to take care of them too. It was the least he could do to make himself feel needed. Of course, such a thing was easier said than done. Unable to keep track of all seven all at once, slowly, each kitsune disappeared from his sight. While he could keep his tabs on most, no matter how long he searched, he couldn't find the kidnapped twins. Disappointed, he vowed to take care of the rest. As he watched, they all seemed to be congregating to the same place, Seisen Academy. Too nervous to actually enter the school on his own, he took the inconspicuous job as the Ferry Captain. Thus, he was able to maintain his mission, protecting everybody, even if it was from afar. out of character OOC NAME: Kaki CHARACTER(S): Takahara Suzune, Takebayashi Aiko, & Salas Alarc FACE CLAIM: • POKEMON • red, sugino kourin |
